Hon. Adesoji Afolabi Assumes Duty as Ondo Culture & Tourism Commissioner, Promises Transformative Leadership

The newly appointed Ondo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Adesoji Afolabi, officially resumed duty today at the Ministry’s headquarters in Akure, marking what many anticipate will be a refreshing chapter for the state’s cultural and tourism advancement.

His arrival was celebrated with a vibrant display of traditional music and dance, reflecting the rich cultural heritage that defines the state. Staff of the ministry turned out in large numbers to receive him, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere filled with excitement and optimism.

Leading the reception was Mr. Tope Akin Adeleye, Director of Planning, Research, Statistics, and Documentation, who represented the Permanent Secretary currently away on an official assignment in Abuja. Mr. Adeleye introduced the commissioner to senior leadership within the ministry and reaffirmed the staff’s readiness to support his vision.

Those introduced included Mr. Ayo Ogunsakin (Director, Arts, Museum, and Monuments), Mr. Apuwabi (Director, Marketing and Business Development), Dr. Ajiga (Director, Accounts), and Mr. Segun Oripelaye (Director, Finance and Administration). Also present was Princess Dupe Adetuwo, Special Assistant on Culture to the Governor, who praised the commissioner’s passion and background as a strong foundation for success.

In his address, Hon. Afolabi thanked Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the confidence imposed on him, describing the appointment as a call to serve with purpose and integrity. He pledged his full commitment to working in accordance with the governor’s OUR EASE Agenda, assuring that his leadership would be driven by focus, inclusivity, and result-oriented strategies.

A former Chairman of Idanre Local Government, Hon. Afolabi brings with him a wealth of experience in grassroots governance and public administration. He expressed his determination to unlock the ministry’s full potential through teamwork, innovation, and efficient use of available resources, noting that culture and tourism would be repositioned as both symbols of pride and engines of growth for the state.

2023 OROSUN FESTIVAL:

“Our culture and tourism should be celebrated more,” Hon. Prince Kayode Adebambo Aroloye, Executive Chairman, Idanre LGA

The Executive Chairman of Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, Hon. Prince Kayode Adebambo Aroloye, fcpa, has called for more celebration of culture and tourism in Idanre Local Government.

He made this pronouncement during the 2023 Orosun festival, which took place at Idanre Hill top on Tuesday, June 13 2023. Notable dignitaries were present and witnessed the celebration of the festival along with notable sons and daughters of Idanre Kingdom.

In his address, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Prince Kayode Aroloye emphasized the importance of culture and the need to celebrate it.  “Our heritage has been passed down by many generations before us, culture is what preserves our heritage, Culture has the potential of increasing our earnings from tourism and it will create entrepreneurial opportunities, a lot of people will be self employed when we all unite and promote our culture in Idanre. Orosun Festival is a unique culture that must be promoted globally he reiterated.

He commended Prince Seyi Olumagba for supporting the festival and called for more support from people around with a view to having a robust celebration in the future.

High Chief Ojo Alalabiaye, the Osolo of Idanre Kingdom, welcomed the Executive Chairman and his entourage to the celebration of this year’s Orosun Festival. He appreciated the Executive Chairman’s efforts and support towards the success of the yearly celebration of the Orosun Festival.
The executive chairman also extended his appreciation to Hon. Yemi Olowolabi and Prince Seyi Olumagba for their support in showcasing our culture to the whole world.

In his words, Prince Seyi Olumagba said, “experiences over the years show that tourism offers great opportunities for emerging economies, strengthen the local economy and reduce poverty in our society. According to him, the Orosun Festival is a  true heritage and an authentic Idanre culture and tradition. We should encourage indigenous Nigerians, and tourists  should come to Idanre to witness.
He urged all Idanre sons and daughters to give their total support to the cultural “Aworos.”

Also, Hon. Yemi Olowolabi, former commissioner for Culture and Tourism, said, “Idanre is one of the most awesome places that has beautiful and natural landscape in Ondo State and even in Nigeria The Oke Idanre where we are celebrating Orosun Festival is well secured, this year Orosun Festival is very interesting as visitors were essentially motivated to learn, discover, experience and view tangible cultural attractions, Orosun is our heritage and we will give full support always”. Hon. Olowolabi promised a well celebrated Ketewa Festival coming up later this year and encouraged all and sundry to get prepared.
